New Textile Art Classes

I'm doing some teaching for a craft group called Canning Vale Crafting on Thursday mornings at 9.30 - 11.30am. Its at the Southern Districts Alliance Church cnr of Warton Road and Garden Street, Canning Vale. The cost is only $10 per session, so if you would like to learn free machine embroidery this is a great opportunity. You only need a basic sewing machine, as long as you can lower the feed dogs and it is in good sewing condition.

We'll start with free machine embroidery but, depending what participants would like to do, we could try some simple printing and other things too in later sessions.
We would love to have more people - if you are interested, you can just show up on Thursday or contact details for inquiries were published in last week's Comment News, page 37.

Breakdown printing workshop - students' fabric

Here's me talking about deColourant discharging gel. I had 12 participants in my workshop - while it was about breakdown printing, we did some other printing techniques too.
The following pics are work from my students who produced some great fabric. I can't remember all of who did what so I'll only give names if I know them.

Above & below: some of Pamela's fabric.

Tish's fabric - she used a squeeze bottle to apply the lines to the screen for both of these

Loralie's fabric: above uses a texture rubbing plate & below the texture object is top left.

Louise's fabric (below)

Betsy's fabric: ironing the discharge gel (printed with 1 of her thermofax screens she ordered from me)

I think the green/yellow fabric is hers too?

Betsy's fabric

Most of these fabrics were done on the first day, then taken home to batch and wash out. Then were brought back to the second workshop day, 2 weeks later when the photos were taken. A few people added anotherlayer to their fabrics. Some of the pics were taken of the second day's printing before batching. I don't have photos of the finished pieces because they were again taken home to batch etc. If anyone would like to send me more pics of their washed out pieces - please do!
I hope I have something from everyone here.

Catching up

Yesterday was the second part of my Breakdown printing workshop. Above: 1 of the screens I prepared - haven't printed it off yet. You can see some of the things I used for texture sticking out from under the screen. Below: 2 more screens. I've since added more to the left one.

Above & below: prints from some of my thermofax screens.

I didn't finish the fabric from the last post, but it has progressed a little with some deColourant discharge added (below)

Above: my demo screen printed out on cotton velveteen.
Below: also velveteen. I like this - just rollered on and mono printed, leftover dye paste.
Looks nice and rich on the velveteen.

Below: these were horrible quilt fabrics altered with paintstick rubbings - I like them better now.

My workshop students produced some great fabric - I'll show some of them next post.
