Exhibition Pieces

Today we took my parents to see the exhibitions I currently have work in. It was a lovely sunny day & we had a good lunch at the Fremantle Art Centre Cafe. These 3 from the It's About Time exhibition have been sold which was very nice. They're all framed in box frames except the one below. Some of the photos could be better, they were done in a bit of a rush.

I've been tagged again - by Anna this time. The rules are: 1. link to her. 2. post rules. 3. list 6 unimportant things about me. 4. tag 6 other blogs I read. So here are the 6 things:
1. I'm a bit of a spoil sport so I'll stick to my policy of not tagging anyone else!
2. I don't like driving & still haven't driven our new car, prefer the old familiar one.
3. I do like chocolate and collecting textile books
4. I'm a Scorpio
5. I don't have a mobile phone
6. My textile work is spreading through the house. I've just spent 3 days tidying, sorting and putting away but my outside studio, where I do the messy stuff, is still to be tackled.

New work

These are some of my fabrics in progress drying on the clothesline. Not finished yet, although the front one with the spots is getting there. They're all very much experimental pieces and I'm enjoying the process. I've used thickened procion dyes for the printing.
The above machine embroidered piece is from the "It's About Time" exhibition at the Old Bakery on 8th Gallery. We went to the opening on Sunday and it was a lovely sunny afternoon which was nice as they have an outdoor courtyard where they have the openings.
This piece "Fallen Log Study" has already sold so I'm posting the pic. My take on the exhibition theme was the effects of time, weathering, erosion etc. The other artists had some interesting and different ideas. There were a couple of other textile people, also paintings, sculpture, jewelery, etc.
On Saturday we had the Innovative Stitches exhibition "Tragedy Treasure and Trade" opening which was a successful event, enough people, nice food again, and people were enjoying the work on show.

TIF: May and June

Now I've finished my exhibition work, it's time to catch up on my Take It Further Challenge pieces. I've decided not to be too pedantic about the chosen colours. While looking for some suitable fabrics last night I found a small collection of printed fabrics (top photo) that I had intended to put together into a project and while they are not the exact colours for May, to me, they have a similar look so that's what I'll use. I want it to be fun, not a chore.
The photo below is fabrics left over from the Batavia project which are pretty close to the June colours.

Machine embroidery

I've finished my pieces for "It's About Time" at The Old Bakery on 8th Gallery. Just have to finish the framing now and take them in tomorrow. The exhibition opens Sunday. I've photographed my work but won't post them yet.

Above: I was thinking of using this in one of my pieces and decided not to but I quite like the effect so will play with it a bit more.
the central motif was done on a bangle. I haven't cut the larger blue circle away from the ring yet so you can see how it's done. I used some selveges torn from printed silk fabric to wind around the frame.
