New Work
this is my latest effort, finished today. It had been lurking at the bottom of the works in progress pile for ages because I was unsure of how to proceed with it. I was looking for a project to get me going again so thought I'd have a go at this. It's made up of various pieces of hand dyed fabrics & the blue part of the flower was already done. I used pieces of scrim to blend the edges of the pieces and lots of free machining then I added the purple stitching (seed pods, stem and outline of flower) I'm not quite sure of what to do with it, whether it should be a wall piece or a bag front.
I've sold 4 of the bags I took to the gallery before we went away. They want some more and I've also got to dye and print some more silk scarves. I only had half as many as they wanted which I sent before we went to Broome. Busy!

last pics from Broome, I promise! Just a couple of textures, corrigated iron on a derelict builing and another rock photo.
Today was my mother's 80th birthday so we had a picnic at Kings Park and saw the fantastic wildflowers. They have a wildflower festival every September, this year was better than ever. Didn't take my camera, damn! But we had a great day, warm and sunny too.

Creatures and Boabs
The above photo shows one of the many Boab trees in Broome.

(below) I was intrigued by this seen on the beach sand at Broome's port. Some kind of small marine creature lives here, each pattern has a little hole in the middle and the pattern is formed by little balls of sand arranged at random. I think they might be the waste product from whatever lives in the sand but to me it looks rather beautiful.

More Broome Photos
The first one shows some of the magroves that grow on the edge of the ocean. Broome has very high tides so the beach looks quite different at different times of the day.
The second photo shows some of the amazing texture in the rocks. I'll post some more but I only seem to be able to do 2 at a time.

I've just come back from 6 days in Broome. It's a fantastic place, boab trees, stunning beaches with the most gorgeous turquoise water and red earth ranging from orange to deep red. It's a bit depressing to come back to winter weather in Perth after the hot weather in Broome. I took lots of photos of rock formations etc. which should provide inspiration for my work.

The bottom photo is the town beach where we enjoyed swimming. We liked it better than the legendary Cable beach as it was quieter, calmer and there were lots of shady places to relax on the lawn, also a good cafe overlooking the water. But we did watch the sun set over Cable beach which was stunning, unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me.

The other photo is at the port area where I took a lot of rock photos.

I'm not having any luck uploading photos at the moment so I'll leave it for now. Not much work happening lately as I've been going on short holidays. Last weekend I had a few days at Kalbarri, north of Perth, where it was lovely & warm. I even had a swim.
On Tuesday we're flying to Broome for 6 days, should be even warmer there. I've been trying to get some Summer clothes made to take. I will update my blog when I return.
